Well seasoned?

My middle daughter went to a wonderful Christian University, Indiana Wesleyan. As they were taking in the freshman- the kids and parents were handed out the above little business sized card. It has and is one of those things that has always stuck with me and hangs by my computer some 5 years later.

Lately salt and its properties keep coming to my thoughts. So I've been doing a little digging. I'm still thinking about what I've been learning and how it applies... but i thought I'd share with you . I'd love to hear your thoughts!

The Bible refers to salt some 41 times...and its various uses and properties. Below are a mix of what scripture clearly says, symbolism i believe it points to and other properties of salt ...

HOW do they.... or do they apply in my faith walk?

* salt is essential for human life
*salt is necessary for all living creatures

*too little salt and you die ...too much salt and you die

*salt is a preservative
*salt ratified covenants

*salt was used a strengthener for newborn infants

*salt has been used for its healing and therapeutic properties
*in many languages, salt is used as a symbol for wisdom and knowledge
*salt used as payment

*salt used in sacrifices
*salt and peace?

*salted oil?

Matt: 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled under food by men.

Colossians 4:5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

Mark 9:50 "Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another."
These are just a very few of the most commonly thought of verses containing salt. Do you have any thoughts, insights you'd like to share with me? I'd love to hear from my wise sisters across the world!
